It seems strange to think that fishmongers were commonly found on most London high streets until a few decades ago. Today they're a rare species and therefore quite a treat.
Jarvis is linked with Fish! Kitchen restaurants and, intelligently, they'll cook any fish available from their wet-fish counters - while you wait - and deliver it directly to your table a few yards away in the restaurant.
As soon as you enter the shop you recognise the quality; it smells of the sea - in a good way - just as truly fresh fish should. There's an appealing array of fresh and smoked fish and seafood together with Mediterranean tinned specialities and authentic Paella rice.
